Endau Holiday

Short but lovely holiday at Endau Rompin National Park in Malaysia over the Singapore National Day period. We hired a four wheel drive and started out from home late around noon. We bounced over rutted dirt roads winding through oil palm plantations - and skidded to a stop before a newly installed electric fence at the national park boundary. Somehow managed to navigate past without getting zapped and finally rolled into the Peta entrance late in the night. Park staff very nice and friendly as usual. We had the luxury of a full kampung house this time.

For those of you in the know, Endau Rompin was also where LC and I met and fell in love. Okay no more romping jokes now, thank you! We camped out in these little wooden cabins at Kuala Jasin, and kayaked up and down the gentle rapids in the background. These were our 'training ground' of sorts, leading to greater adventures on the river to unexplored areas such as upriver Endau and Jasin even all the way to the Pahang State park entrance led by the memorable Czech paddler Pavel Neuzil.

This trip was different, though we did still manage to raft down the river with Kait in her jammies who also went swimming - water baby like her parents both - and promptly fell asleep after her jaunt even before the raft reached destination! We need more family trips like this one.
